The importance of Field Ministry and PracticumsPreparation for urban and pastoral ministry involves excellence in academics, theological reflection, and field ministry. City College believes that a prerequisite for effective service in the central city is practical hands-on experience. When a student graduates from City College Milwaukee with an Associate of Arts in Urban Studies degree, he or she will have completed over 200 hours of practicums. This gives the graduate a wide range of experience to draw upon as they emerge as community leaders. All field ministry practicums take place under the direct supervision of a practicum leader. The practicum leader is responsible for teaching, guiding and evaluating the student's ministry. The goal of City College Milwaukee is to enable students to depend upon the Holy Spirit and practice sound biblical teachings. Student cooperation with practicum leaders is of the utmost importance.

Practicum requirements1. Students taking eight or more credits are required to complete one field ministry credit per semester until they have fulfilled their program requirement. A field practicum credit consists of both weekly field ministry experience as well as a weekly prac¬ticum small group where topics of spiritual formation and char¬acter development are discussed. The discussion topics change from semester to semester.
2. Four field ministry credits are required for the Associate of Arts degree in Urban Studies. Two field ministry credits are required for the one-year certificate programs.
3. Diploma students take two field ministry credits for a one-year diploma and four field ministry credits for a two-year diploma program.
4. Students should consult the Practicum Handbook for further details of the practicum requirements.
Selection of practicums 1. At registration, students will be provided with a list of available field ministry opportunities. Students should select their practicum at the time they register for their other courses. In sched¬uling a practicum, students should remember there are two time slots for each practicum-the field ministry time and the discipleship time.
2. Students may not enroll in the same practicum more than twice. It is the college's desire that our students obtain a wide variety of ministerial experience through practicums.
3. Outstation practicums will be limited to second year students and those who already are in full-time ministry. Outstation practicums are approved by the Dean of Students on a case-by-case basis.
