DoctrineTheological Foundations• We emphasize serving God with the view that no matter what a person may do in life, loving and serving the Lord is the highest priority. This is our main purpose; all other involvements flow out of our relationship with God. • We see service to God as primarily expressed through the local congregation and its extended services. We are people of the church, where we have our primary sphere of activity, social involvement, work, and recreation.
• We also serve the world by fulfilling the Great Commission of taking the gospel to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth, winning the lost, and pushing back the powers of spiritual darkness that hold the world in bondage.
• We are people of the Spirit, acting in the truth that the Holy Spirit and the Word of God affects the mind, emotions, will and body. We also believe that the power of the Spirit enables a person to become an effective leader in community service.
Statement of Faith
1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
3. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
4. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
5. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
6. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. National Association of Evangelicals National Association of Evangelicals
Expressions of FaithThroughout the history of the Christian church, faith has been ex¬pressed in a variety of ways. There are five distinctives in the theological foundation of City College. Students do not have to subscribe to these distinctives to attend classes or to graduate from City College Milwaukee. We hold to our distinctives while at the same time acknowledging and respecting the distinctives of each denomination in the Christian Church. 1. Ordinance of baptism by immersion. All who repent and believe on Christ as Savior and Lord are to be baptized.
2. Ordinance of the Lord's Supper. This consists of the elements of bread and fruit of the vine as a memorial of Christ's suffering and death.
3. The baptism in the Holy Spirit as witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance (Acts 2:4).
4. Divine healing as an integral provision of the atonement.
5. The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on the earth for one thousand years.
